Judge Sets Record $1.5 Million Fine in BitTorrent Case

Kywan Fisher was ordered by an Illinois federal court to pay $1.5 million, or $150,000 for each of the ten movies he downloaded, to adult film production company Flava Works. In a default judgment, the judge set the maximum penalty under U.S. copyright law of ten times statutory damages — the biggest penalty to date in a BitTorrent case.
